H&R Block shared customer financial information in violation of federal law, according to a recent congressional investigation.
In July 2023, a United State Senate investigation determined that H&R Block most likely disclosed Consumers' "return information" to Meta, Inc. in violation of 26 U.S.C. §§ 6713 and 7216 by embedding Meta's "Pixel" within H&R Block's mobile and website tools that consumers used to prepare and file their personal income tax return. Statutory violations can carry a penalty up to $10,000 per affected individual.
